After many laps of the athletics track and a promising warm up, the ladies 1XI were ready to repeat the glories of the previous week. The fact we were 1-0 up (thanks to Wilson’s raging reverse) in the first 4 minutes says everything about our mentality during the game. After a slightly shaky start from the defence, we settled and matched the argy-bargy from the Trojan forwards with a cool attitude. There was some beautiful hockey played on the counter, coming from some gorgeous outlets and incredible intercepts from our midfield. The press plan worked a dream as always (thanks Rob) and the forwards worked tirelessly on the collapse. It has to be mentioned that we also won infinitely more corners than last week (seeing as last week we won NONE) but on the downside we couldn’t seem to put any of them past the ‘accidental saves’ of the keeper. Trojans levelled it 1-1 in the first quarter, after a hit and hope long ball, After that slight mishap, we recovered, settled, and that was the last the Trojans saw of the back of our net. After another from Wilson and one from Chaudry, we were 3-1 up at half time, then a couple of cards later, the Q3 curse had been beaten. The fourth quarter was entertaining stuff, with Wilson scoring her hat-trick, We did well not to get dragged into a nitty-gritty, contact-heavy game, and stuck to our 36-page game plan very well. All in all, it was an ‘actually enjoyable’ match (because I didn’t cry this week).
Yours Sincerely,
BL (NOT IL) - and yes I did forget my socks.
