Top of the league clashes are always eagerly anticipated and Sunday's match against Southgate was no different.
With a slippy surface due to incessant rain, TBB made a nervy start with Southgate having the upper hand in the opening quarter. They took the lead in the 13' when Allister finished off a lose ball from close range. Southgate doubled their lead in the 19' Hamilton penetrated the circle on a narrow angle from the left hand side and roofed an unstoppable reverse shot.
TBB, as is their habit, clawed their way back into the game and were awarded a penalty corner in the 22' with Jackson reducing the deficit by finishing off a rebound from the Goalkeeper at the near post.
The game opened up somewhat in the second half with TBB chasing for an equaliser but TBB were gifting turnovers in critical areas. The final quarter saw TBB produce their best hockey with Malthouse going close on a 1-v-1 against the Souhthgate goalkeeper and Foxhall-Smith being called upon to make a couple of good saves for TBB. Despite being reduced to 10 players for the last 5 mins, TBB continued pushing forward. They had an opportunity for the the equalising goal when they were awarded a penalty on the final whistle but the attempted deflection was saved.
TBB will be disappointed with the result. Overall they played well defensively but couldn't connect the dots up front and lacked the killer punch inside the circle. Something to be worked and focused upon in preparation for next Sunday's home match on 12 November versus Canterbury starting 1300 hrs
