The Fives travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett for a midday game in the autumnal heat. Jack B turned up late with the best excuse ever to have graced a hockey game - he had to deal with a loose sheep!
So we had a band of 12 with nice mix of youth and experience. We used the warm up for intros and then agreed our game plan.
Game started well with us dominating possession and go forward ball. Great running and strike from Otto led to a sweet deflected goal from Jack B. 1-0.
All was going well and then Jack B unfortunately rolled his ankle and had to go was off. A rejig and we were down to 11 with RWB smug with their 16 players!
Jack in goal made a number of good saves. They then snuck in a goal from a PC. We then switched back on and took the play to them which culminated in a smart PC goal from us which Tom M scored. 2-1.
Half time team talk was full of positives. And the second half was an excellent team performance with tiring legs but everyone putting a shift in. We made a number of chances with their keeper on fine form. We remained solid until the end with Matt A solid in defence and Louis marshalling the midfield.
An excellent 2-1 win where team spirit was brilliant. Well deserved player of the match for Loius (Loosh!) and with acknowledgment that everyone played their part in the win.
Great afternoon of hockey in the sun. 🏒 ☀
