Accessing Free Level 1 Umpiring Course

The new free Level 1 Umpiring Courses are filling up, book your place if you want to be involved

The new free Level 1 Umpiring Course is delivered through a blended format:

Two online modules:
Safeguarding Awareness (approx. 30 minutes)
Rules Test (approx. 30 minutes)
One live online workshop:
A 2-hour interactive session led by England Hockey tutor

Eligibility & Cost Because Team Bath Buccaneers is an England Hockey-affiliated club, our members, including University of Bath players, can access the course free of charge. This is part of England Hockey’s initiative to support grassroots umpiring development.

How to Register

Players should first create an account on the England Hockey Hockey Hub.

During registration, they should indicate their club as Team Bath Buccaneers to ensure the course fee is waived.

Once registered, they can select the Level 1 Umpiring Course and choose a suitable workshop date.

Receive Your Certificate

Once all components are completed, you’ll be awarded the Level 1 Umpiring Certificate.
You’re now qualified to officiate club-level matches.

Optional Assessment

You’ll be considered “Level 1 unassessed” until you’re observed in a match by a Level 2 umpire.
This step is optional but useful if you want to progress further.
